The car is on the ground
1. Set wheels to straight ahead. Check steering wheel free play. If it exceeds the permissible value, then there are problems in the wheel bearings, the crosses of the main and intermediate steering shafts, the lower arm ball joint, misalignment of the steering gear engagement (see chapter 10).
2. Excessive rolls of the car, increased vibration of the body on rough roads, swaying in turns indicate damage to the steering and suspension.
3. To control the shock absorbers, rock the car by pressing on each of the four corners. If the body did not return to its original position in one, maximum two moves, it is most likely that the rack will have to be repaired or replaced.
4. Check the position of the body relative to the ground - if there is a roll to the side or back and forth, the springs most likely sagged or the suspension parts were worn out.
5. Inspect tires for irregular (uneven) wear (see section 5). Adjust tire pressure.
On a lifted car
6. Inspect the condition of the steering shaft universal joints, the absence of leaks from the steering mechanism, the integrity of the anthers and seals. Check the tie rod ends for excessive play. Inspect the integrity of the suspension parts and their fasteners.
7. Inspect all ball joints and ensure there is no play in the ball joint using a suitable lever. Replace supports (or a lever, if the support is made in one piece) in case of wear.
