Air damper position control (Honda Civic 3)

1. The air damper operates only when the engine is cold started.

2. Remove the air cleaner. Mark and disconnect the vacuum hoses.

3. The flap will be visible through the opening in the filter housing.

4. Press the gas pedal. The valve should close completely. Start the engine, the valve should begin to open slowly. Do not keep your face close to the carburetor, a backfire is possible, which will lead to a burn.

5. Let the engine idle. Once it warms up to normal temperature, the throttle should open fully.

6. Make sure that the idle speed has reached the normal value: when the throttle is fully closed, the idle speed is maximum, as it warms up and the air damper opens, the engine speed decreases.
