Note: The disassembly algorithm applies to both mechanical steering and power steering. If your car is not equipped with power steering, just ignore the items related to power steering (GUR).


Removal



1. Raise the front of the car on stands. Set the parking brake.

2. Place a tray under the steering gear (only for cars with power steering). Turn off the pipes and plug them.

3. Mark the relative positions of the intermediate propeller shaft and the steering gear input shaft. Remove the pinch bolt.

4. Remove the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle (see section 25).

5. Loosen the mounting bolts while supporting the steering gear. Lower it, remove the propeller shaft and take out the steering gear.

Installation



6. Install the steering gear, tighten the bolts and place the cardan joint on the splines of the steering shaft according to the marks made earlier.

7. Tighten the mounting bolts.

8. Install the tie rod ends onto the steering knuckle (see section 25).

9. Tighten the driveshaft clamp bolt.

10. Connect the hoses to the steering gear, add fluid to the power steering pump reservoir (see Chapter 1).

11. Lower the vehicle and bleed the power steering system (see section 29).
