Range Selector Lever Positions
On the dashboard there are indicators that allow you to easily control the position of the range selector of the stepless variator and the active mode of the variator.
Indicator D lights up for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on (the key is turned in the lock to position II). If indicator D flashes while driving (regardless of the position of the range selector lever), this indicates a possible transmission failure. In this case, you should avoid sudden acceleration of the car and contact a Honda workshop to check and repair the transmission.
Depending on the modification of the vehicle, the range selector lever may have five or six fixed positions. When starting the engine, the selector lever must only be in the P position (Parking) or N (neutral). If you stopped the car when one of the ranges D, S is on (available only on six-speed transmission modification), L, N or R, you must fully release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal to brake the vehicle reliably. When starting the car on a hill, it is necessary to apply the parking brake simultaneously with the service brake system.
Certain shifts of the range selector lever can only be performed by simultaneously pressing the lock button, which is located on the side of the handle.

Range Selector Lever and Mode Switch Positions
R (Parking)
This position of the selector lever mechanically locks the transmission output shaft. Always turn the selector lever to position P (Parking) when turning off or starting the engine. To move the selector lever out of position P (Parking), you must press the brake pedal, after releasing the accelerator pedal. Press the release button located on the side of the lever handle and turn the lever out of position P (Parking).
If, on a vehicle equipped with a selector lever release device, after all the above actions, the lever still cannot be removed from position P (Parking), it is necessary to release the selector lever using the ignition key, see automatic transmission.
To turn the range selector lever to position P (Parking), you must also press the release button. To avoid damage to the transmission, turn the lever to the P position (Parking) only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
On a vehicle equipped with a selector lever release. You can only remove the key from the ignition when the selector lever is in position P (Parking).
R (Reverse)
Methods for switching the range selector lever between positions R (Reverse) and R (Parking) described above. Turning the lever to position R from position N (neutral) do it only after the car has come to a complete stop, while pressing the release button located on the side of the lever handle.
N (neutral)
Use the N position (neutral) when starting a stalled engine while the vehicle is moving and during short stops of the vehicle with the engine running. If for any reason you need to move away from the car, first move the selector lever to position P (Parking). Depress the brake pedal when disengaging the range selector lever from the N position (neutral).

D (Movement)
The selector lever must be in this position at all times when the vehicle is moving under normal road conditions. In the D range, the transmission can operate in one of three modes: normal, sport (dynamic) and economical.
Switching between transmission operating modes is carried out using the rotary knob, which is located near the range selector lever. The enabled mode is reflected by the corresponding indicator on the dashboard.
Normal mode
Designed for primary use in normal vehicle operation. The control system of the continuously variable variator, by adjusting the gear ratio of the transmission, ensures that the engine operates in the optimal range of the crankshaft speed. The inclusion of the normal mode corresponds to the middle position of the switch handle.
Sports, (dynamic) mode
Provides for the use of a wider range of gear ratios of the stepless variator to improve the throttle response of the car. To activate this mode, turn the selector knob to the S position (dynamic) The transmission mode can be turned on and off at any time.
Economy mode
Provides the use of the upper part of the range of gear ratios of the continuously variable variator to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. To enable this mode, turn the selector knob to position E. The economy mode of the transmission can be turned on and off at any time.
L-position (Lower subrange)
To move the selector lever out of position D (Movement) to position L, press the release button located on the side of the lever handle. The L range is recommended to improve the vehicle's traction when climbing hills, as well as to provide more intensive engine braking on descents. For a sharp acceleration of the car when the transmission is in the D or L range, depress the accelerator pedal to the stop. In this case, the stepless variator will go into the region of lower gear ratios.

Position D (Movement)
The selector lever must be in this position at all times when the vehicle is moving under normal road conditions. The CVT control system, by automatically adjusting the gear ratio of the transmission, keeps the engine running in the optimum range of the crankshaft speed. If the engine is not warmed up to normal operating temperature, the transmission will operate at reduced gear ratios, allowing the engine to warm up more quickly.
S-position (Reduced Range)
When the selector lever is in the S position, the continuously variable automatic transmission operates at lower gear ratios than in the D range. This improves engine braking response. The S range is recommended when driving in hilly terrain and in heavy traffic with frequent slowdowns and stops.
L-position (Lower subrange)
To move the selector lever to position L, press the release button located on the side of the lever handle. The L range is recommended to improve the traction properties of the vehicle when climbing hills, as well as for intensive engine braking on steep descents.
For a sharp acceleration of the car when the transmission is in the D, S or L range, depress the accelerator pedal to the stop. In this case, the stepless variator will go into the region of lower gear ratios.
