Vehicles with stepless variator
Features of driving a car in the transmission of which a continuously variable variator is installed are described in Section stepless variator (individual models).
Range Selector Lever Positions
On the dashboard are indicators that allow you to easily control the position of the automatic transmission range selector.
On some modifications of the car, the D4 indicator is turned on for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on (the key is turned in the lock to position II). If the D4 indicator flashes while the vehicle is moving (regardless of the position of the range selector lever), this indicates a possible malfunction of the automatic transmission. In this case, you should avoid sudden acceleration of the car and contact a Honda service station.
Sometimes the D4 indicator may be located together with a separate fuel gauge.
Depending on the modification of the vehicle, the range selector lever may have seven or six fixed positions. When starting the engine, the selector lever must only be in the P position (Parking) or N (neutral). If you stopped the car when one of the ranges D4, D3, 2, 1 is switched on in the automatic transmission (available on some vehicle modifications), N or R, you must fully release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal to brake the vehicle reliably.
Certain shifts of the range selector lever can only be performed by simultaneously pressing the lock button, which is located on the side of the handle.

Selector lever positions
R (Parking)
This position of the selector lever mechanically locks the transmission output shaft. Always turn the selector lever to position P (Parking) when turning off or starting the engine. To move the selector lever out of position P (Parking), you must press the brake pedal, after releasing the accelerator pedal. Press the release button located on the side of the lever handle and turn the lever out of position P (Parking).
If, on a vehicle equipped with a selector lever release device, after all the above actions, the lever still cannot be removed from position P (Parking), it is necessary to release the selector lever using the ignition key, see below.
To turn the range selector lever to position P (Parking), you must also press the release button. To avoid damage to the transmission, turn the lever to the P position (Parking) only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
On a vehicle equipped with a selector lever release. You can only remove the key from the ignition when the selector lever is in position P (Parking).
R (Reverse)
Methods for switching the range selector lever between positions R (Reverse) and R (Parking) described above. Turning the lever to position R from position N (neutral) do it only after the car has come to a complete stop, while pressing the release button located on the side of the lever handle. (neutral)
Use the N position (neutral) when starting a stalled engine while the vehicle is moving and during short stops of the vehicle with the engine running. If for any reason you need to move away from the car, first move the selector lever to position P (Parking). Depress the brake pedal when disengaging the range selector lever from the N position (neutral).
D4 (Movement)
The selector lever must be in this position at all times when the vehicle is moving under normal road conditions. In the D4 range (Movement) automatic shifting of forward gears is provided depending on the vehicle speed and the degree of depression on the accelerator pedal. On some modifications of the car, the adjustment of the moments of switching to higher gears towards higher speeds is provided if the engine is not warmed up to normal temperature. This ensures faster warm-up of the engine.
D3
When the range selector lever is in the D3 position, the automatic transmission functions in the same way as when the range is in D4. The difference is that the transition to 4th gear is excluded. The D3 range is recommended when towing a trailer in hilly terrain or when applying engine braking downhill. The inclusion of the D3 range is also useful to eliminate unnecessary cyclic shifting of the automatic transmission between third and fourth gears, which can be observed, for example, when driving in heavy traffic with frequent slowdowns during car stops.
For a sharp acceleration of the car when the gearbox is in the D4 or D3 range, press the accelerator pedal all the way. In this case, the gearbox will automatically shift to an adjacent lower gear. If the vehicle speed is low, the box can immediately switch down two steps.
2
To move the range selector lever to position 2, press the lock button, which is located on the side of the lever handle. When engaged in range 2, the automatic transmission will operate in second gear at all times. When the vehicle is stopped, the transmission does not shift into first gear. The constant engagement of the second gear provides good traction dynamics of the car on the slopes and the possibility of intensive engine braking on the descents. Range 2 is recommended to be switched on when starting the car on a slippery road surface, as well as when driving in deep snow. This helps to prevent strong slipping of the driving wheels of the car.
When the D3 or 2 ranges are engaged while the vehicle is moving, the transmission will automatically delay the lower gears and occur only after the vehicle speed has decreased to a safe level, at which the maximum allowable engine speed will not be exceeded.
1 (individual models)
To move the range selector lever to position 1 from position 2, press the release button located on the side of the lever handle. When in range 1, the automatic transmission will always operate in first gear. By shifting the range selector lever between positions 1, 2, D3 and D4, you can control the automatic transmission in the same way as a manual transmission (but without the need to use the clutch release pedal).
Range selector lever release device (individual models)
The unlocking device allows you to remove the range selector lever from the P position (Parking), if the usual shutdown reception (while depressing the brake pedal and release button) turned out to be ineffective.
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Remove the key from the ignition lock.
3. Insert the ignition key into the lock slot of the lever release device. The lock is located next to the lever.
4. Press the key down while pressing the release button and move the selector lever from position P (Parking) to position N (neutral).
5. Remove the key from the selector lever release lock. Step on the brake pedal and start the engine. If to turn off the range selector lever from position P (Parking) If you had to use the lever release device, then a transmission failure is a possible cause. Contact the service station to check and repair the car.
