1. Turn the ignition on by turning the key to the "ON" (II) position.

2. Perform the self-diagnosis procedure of the meter. Is the "MIL" indicator blinking?
  • YES - go to step 3.
  • NO - Substitute a known-good instrument control module (tachometer) and retest. If the MIL circuit is good, replace the original instrument control module (tachometer).

3. Connect the HDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC).

4. Check SCS in "DATA LIST" ("DATA LIST") using HDS.

Is the short circuit displayed on the screen?
  • YES - go to step 5.
  • NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or temporarily substitute a known-good ECM, then retest. If the fault does not occur with the known-good ECM, replace the removed ECM.

5. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.

6. Disconnect the ECM connector A 44P, then disconnect the HDS system.

7. Check the continuity of the connection between terminal A31 of the ECM connector and the body ground.

Is the connection continuous?
  • YES - Repair short in wire between ECM/PCM (A31) and SRS, DLC.B
  • NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or temporarily substitute a known-good ECM, then retest. If the fault does not occur with the known-good ECM, replace the removed ECM.
