DTC code
P0351: Malfunction in the circuit of the ignition coil of cylinder No. 1 on the intake side.
P0353: Malfunction in the circuit of the ignition coil of cylinder No. 2 on the intake side.
P0355: Malfunction in the circuit of the ignition coil of cylinder No. 3 on the intake side.
P0357: Malfunction in the circuit of the ignition coil of cylinder No. 4 on the intake side.
Note. Record all latched data and any on-board function data before troubleshooting «snapshot» and read general troubleshooting instructions.
Information marked with an asterisk (*), refers to the rear ignition coils.
1. Switch on the ignition by turning the key to position «ON» (II).
2. Clear the DTC using the HDS.
3. Start the engine.
4. Check for temporary DTCs or DTCs using the HDS diagnostic system.
Is DTC P0351, P0352*, P0353, P0354*, P0355, P0356*, P0357, and/or P0358* set?
- YES - go to step 5.
- NO - intermittent fault, the system is OK at the moment. Check the connection or fastening of the terminals of the ignition coil and the ECM.
5. Turn the ignition key to position «OFF».
6. Swap the ignition coil of the problem cylinder with the ignition coil of another cylinder.
7. Start the engine.
8. Check temporary DTCs or DTCs using the HDS diagnostic system.
Is the DTC displayed in the position of the replaced coil?
- YES - Replace the failed ignition coil, then Go to 25.
- NO - go to step 9.
9. Turn the ignition key to position «OFF».
10. Check fuse #11 «IGNITION COIL» 2 (15 A) * and fuse number 10 «IGNITION COIL» 1 (15 A) in the relay/fuse box in the engine compartment.
Is the fuse correct?
- YES - go to step 11.
- NO - go to step 12.
11. Check ignition coil relay in underdash relay/fuse box
Relay ok?
- YES - go to step 15.
- NO - Replace the engine compartment relay/fuse box, then go to step 25.
12. Disconnect 20P (white) fuse/relay box connector in the engine compartment.
13. Disconnect all 3P ignition coil connectors.
14. Check the continuity between the No. 3 3P connector of the cylinder No. 1 ignition coil on the intake side and «weight» body.
Is the connection continuous?
- YES - Repair open in the wire between the ignition coils and the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment. Check fuse #11 «IGNITION COIL» 2 (15 A) * and fuse number 10 «IGNITION COIL» 1 (15 A), then go to step 25.
- NO - Replace the engine compartment relay/fuse box, then go to step 25.
15. Reconnect 20P (white) fuse/relay box connector in the engine compartment.
16. Disconnect the ignition coil 3P connector from the problem cylinder.
17. Turn on the ignition by turning the key to position «ON» (II).
18. Measure the voltage between terminal No. 3 3P of the ignition coil connector of the faulty cylinder and «weight» body (see table).

Is there voltage in the battery?
- YES - go to step 19.
- NO - Repair open in the wire between the ignition coil and the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment, then go to step 25.
19. Turn the ignition key to position «OFF».
20. Check the continuity between terminal No. 2 3P of the ignition coil connector of the faulty cylinder and «weight» body (see table).

Is the connection continuous?
- YES - go to step 21.
- NO - Repair open in the wire between the ignition coil and G101, then go to step 25.
21. Connect the HDS diagnostic system bypassing the SCS circuit.
22. Disconnect the 44P connector C from the ECM.
23. Check the continuity of the circuit between «weight» body and the corresponding terminal of the ECM computer connector of the faulty cylinder (see table).

Is the connection continuous?
- YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM and the ignition coil, then Go to 25.
- NO - go to step 24.
24. Check for continuity between the No. 1 3P connector terminal of the appropriate ignition coil and the appropriate ECM connector terminal of the faulty cylinder (see table).

Is the connection continuous?
- YES - go to step 31.
- NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM and the ignition coil, then go to step 25.
25. Turn the ignition key to position «OFF».
26. Reconnect all connectors and battery.
27. Turn on the ignition by turning the key to position «ON» (II).
28. Zero the ECM using the HDS diagnostic system.
29. Perform the ECM Idle Diagnosis procedure.
30. Check temporary DTCs or DTCs using the HDS diagnostic system.
Are temporary DTCs or DTCs output?
- YES - If DTCs P0351, P0352*, P0353, P0354*, P0355, P0356*, P0357, and P0358* are output, check for poor connections and poor ignition coil and ECM terminals, then go to step 1. If other temporary DTCs or DTCs, proceed to troubleshooting according to the DTCs listed.
- NO - Troubleshooting completed.
31. Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM temporarily.
32. Check temporary DTCs or DTCs using the HDS diagnostic system.
Are temporary DTCs or DTCs output?
- YES - If DTCs P0351, P0352*, P0353, P0354*, P0355, P0356*, P0357, and P0358* are output, check for poor connections and poor ignition coil and ECM terminals, then go to step 1. If other temporary DTCs or DTCs, Go to Troubleshooting for the DTCs listed.
- NO - If the ECM software has been updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the system is working properly and the ECM has been replaced, replace the original ECM.
