2. Remove the lower engine cover.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Remove the cylinder head cover.
5. Set piston #1 to the top dead center (TDC) position. The "UP" mark A on the camshaft sprocket should be at the top, and the top dead center (TDC) marks B on the sprocket should be aligned with the top edge of the cylinder head.
6. Remove the generator bracket mounting bolt A and loosen the generator mounting bolt B.
7. Remove the idler pulley.
8. Remove the water pump pulley.
9. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
10. Remove the oil pan.

11. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor connector A, then remove the harness clamps B.
12. Support the engine with a jack and a wooden block placed under the oil pan.
13. Remove ground cable A, then remove engine side mounting bracket B.
14. Avoid contact between the generator and the timing chain housing. Remove the chain housing A, then the pulse plate B.

15. Measure the timing chain looseness. If the distance is less than the permissible limit, replace the timing chain and its tensioner.
Standard distance: 19 mm.
Working limit: 15 mm.
16. Lubricate the sliding surface of the timing chain tensioner slider A with engine oil.
17. Holding the timing chain tensioner slider with a screwdriver, unscrew bolt B and loosen bolt C.

18. Remove the timing chain tensioner slider.

19. Remove the timing chain tensioner A and timing chain guide B.
20. Remove the timing chain.
