Warning: Engine parts or engine oil can cause burns. Use caution when removing or installing any parts.
1. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Charge the battery if necessary.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Stop the engine and let it cool slightly for 10 minutes.
4. (D15B, D17A) Remove the air filter.
5. (K20A) Remove the intake manifold cover.
6. Disconnect the connectors from the injectors.
7. Turn the engine over with the starter.
8. Remove the four ignition coils.
9. Remove the spark plugs.
10. Install the compression tester nipple into the spark plug hole of the first cylinder and connect the tachometer.
11. With the throttle valve fully open, crank the engine crankshaft with the starter.
12. Record the maximum pressure value in the first cylinder.
13. Perform the described check for each cylinder.
- Compression stroke end pressure - not less than 930 kPa at 250 rpm
- Maximum difference between cylinders is 200 kPa
14. If the maximum pressure in one of the cylinders is low, or the pressure difference between the different cylinders exceeds the set value, pour a small amount of clean engine oil into the cylinder and check the pressure again.
(1) If the pressure has increased, this may indicate wear of the piston, piston rings or cylinder and the need for repair of the cylinder-piston group.
(2) If the pressure does not rise, this indicates that the valves are faulty and require repair.
(3) If the pressure in two adjacent cylinders remains low, this indicates a blown cylinder head gasket or a warped cylinder head.
15. Remove the compression gauge.
16. Installation of parts during assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
