Note: Warm up the engine to operating temperature (radiator fan is on).


1. Apply the parking brake and block the front wheels. Start the engine, then shift to position [D4] while pressing the brake pedal. Press the accelerator pedal and release it sharply. The engine should not stall.

2. Repeat the same test in [D3] position.

3. Test drive the vehicle on a level road in the [D4] position. Check that shifts occur at the approximate speeds shown. Also check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage.

Note: The throttle position sensor voltage indicates the throttle opening.

  • 1. Remove ECM (S4PA), TCM (S4XA)
  • 2. S4PA

Set up a digital multitester to check the voltage between D1 (+) terminal and A9 or A22 (-) terminal of the throttle position sensor.

S4XA

Set up a digital multitester to check the voltage between terminal 64 (+) and terminal A13 or A26 (-) for the throttle position sensor.

4. Accelerate to approximately 57 km / h with the transmission in 4th gear, then switch from [D4J position to [2] position. The vehicle must immediately start slowing down due to engine braking.



Attention. Do not switch from [D4] or [03] position a [2] or [1] position at speeds over 100 km / h: you may damage the transmission.


5. Check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage in the following positions.

[1] (1st gear) Position (7-position transmission)
  • 1. Accelerate from a standstill with the throttle fully open. Check for abnormal noise or clutch slippage.
  • 2. Upper and lower shifting should not occur in this position.

[2] (2nd gear) position
  • 1. Accelerate from a standstill with the throttle fully open. Check for abnormal noise or clutch slippage.

[R] (reverse) Position

Accelerate from a standstill with the throttle open and check for abnormal noise and clutch slippage.

6. Test in [R] (Parking) Position

Place the car on a slope (approximately 16°), set the parking brake, and shift to the [P] position. Release the brake, the car should not move.
