Note: Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan should come on).
1. Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels. Start the engine, then shift into position D while pressing the brake pedal. Press the accelerator pedal sharply and release it. The engine should not stall.
2. Carry out a test in position P. Park the vehicle on a slope (approximately 16°), apply the parking brake and shift to position P. Release the brake; the car should not move.
3. Road test the vehicle on a level road in the position shown in the table. Make sure that the engine speed is approximately equal to the vehicle speed shown in the table below.
Note: The voltage at the throttle position sensor represents the opening angle of the throttle valve.
1. Remove the wheel well panel to gain access to the PCM during road testing.
2. Connect a digital multitester and check the voltage at the throttle position sensor between terminal C27 (+) and B20 (-) or B22 (-) of the PCM.
