Check/Replace



Caution: When checking and replacing, make sure that dust and other foreign particles do not enter the transmission.


Examination



Caution: Remove all foreign matter from the transmission.


Note: Check the fluid level when the engine is at normal operating temperature (radiator fan is on).


1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Pull out the dipstick (for the yellow loop) from the transmission and wipe with a clean cloth.

3. Insert the dipstick into the transmission.

4. Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level, it should be between the upper and lower marks.

5. If the level is below the lower mark, add fluid to the dipstick hole to bring it up to the upper mark. Use only Honda Premium Formula Automatic Transmission Fluid or equivalent DEXTRON II Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).



6. Insert the dipstick back into the transmission.

Replacement



Caution: Remove all foreign matter from the transmission.


1. Bring the transmission to operating temperature by driving the vehicle. Park the vehicle on a level surface, turn off the engine and remove the drain plug.

2. Replace the drain plug with a new washer, then fill the transmission to the upper mark on the dipstick.

  • 2.4 l when replacing
  • 5.4 l after major repairs

  • 5.9 l after major repairs
