Timing Belt Installation (Honda Civic 5)

Install the timing belt in the reverse order of removal. Only the main points are described below.

1. Install the crankshaft toothed pulley so that the piston of cylinder No.1 is at TDC. Align the mark on the crankshaft toothed pulley with the pointer on the oil pump housing.

3. Install the timing belt in the exact order specified.
  • (1) Crankshaft toothed pulley.
  • (2) Tension pulley.
  • (3) Water pump pulley.
  • (4) Intake camshaft drive pulley.
  • (5) Exhaust camshaft drive pulley.

Note: Make sure all marks are aligned correctly.

4. Loosen and tighten the adjusting bolt again to ensure the timing belt is tensioned.



5. Install the bottom cover and middle cover.

Note: Before installation, please clean the top and middle covers.


6. Install the crankshaft pulley, then tighten the pulley bolt

7. Turn the crankshaft pulley approximately five or six turns counterclockwise so that the timing belt is located on the pulleys.

8. Adjust the timing belt tension.

9. Check again that all marks are aligned correctly.

10. If the marks on the pulleys do not match, remove the timing belt and then install the belt again.

11. After installation, adjust the tension of each belt.
