2. Check the timing belt for cracks and traces of coolant or oil.
Attention:
- Replace the belt if the belt becomes saturated with oil or coolant.
- Remove any oil or solvent from the belt.
3. After inspection, tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to a torque of 177 Nm.
Tension adjustment
Warning. Always adjust the tension of the timing belt when the engine is cold.
Attention. Always rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise when viewed from the pulley side. Clockwise rotation may result in incorrect belt tension adjustment.
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.
3. Rotate the crankshaft five or six turns to install the belt.
4. Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.
5. Loosen the adjusting bolt 180°.
6. Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise three teeth of the camshaft pulley.
7. Tighten the adjusting bolt.
8. After adjustment, tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to a torque of 177 Nm.
