Manual inspection
1. Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.
2. Remove the ignition wire cover and wires.
3. Remove the ignition clamps by pressing the lock.
4. Remove the cylinder head cover.
5. Press the middle rocker arm on cylinder #1 with your finger.
6. Make sure the middle rocker arm turns independently of the primary and secondary rocker arms.
7. Check the middle rocker arm of each cylinder at TDC.
- If the middle rocker arm does not turn, remove the middle, primary and secondary rocker arm assembly and check that the pistons in the middle and primary rocker arms are moving evenly.
- If any of the rocker arms require replacement, replace the primary, mid and secondary rocker arm assemblies.
Inspection using special tools
Attention:
- Before using special tools, make sure that the pressure gauge on the compressor shows pressures above 400 kPa (4 kgf/cm2).
- Before inspecting the rocker arm, check the valve clearance.
- Cover the timing belt with a rag to prevent oil from getting on the belt.
- Check the center rocker arm of each cylinder at TDC.
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Close the outlet with a special tool (air plug).
3. Remove the bolt and washer from the inspection hole and attach the special tool (valve tester).
4. Apply the required air pressure to the rocker piston after releasing the control valve in the valve testing device.
- Air pressure: 259 kPa (2.5 kgf/cm2) - 490 kPa (5.0 kgf/cm2)
5. Make sure that the primary and secondary rocker arms are firmly connected by the pistons and that the middle rocker arm does not rotate when pressed with a finger.
If the middle rocker arm turns independently of the primary and secondary rocker arms, replace the rocker arm assembly.
6. Remove special tools.
7. Check the operation of the return device by pressing the middle rocker arm. The return device must be fully compressed and operate smoothly throughout its entire stroke. Replace the device if it does not work smoothly (evenly).
8. After inspection, check that the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) does not light up.
