Examination
Caution: When reassembling the primary rocker arm, carefully apply compressed air to the rocker arm lube passage.
1. Check the rocker arm piston. Press the piston with your finger, if the piston does not move freely, replace the rocker arms as a whole.
2. Remove the freewheel assembly from the cylinder head and check its operation by pressing the plunger with your finger. If the freewheel assembly does not move freely, replace it.
Checking the gap
Measure both intake and exhaust rocker arm shafts.
1. Measure the axle diameter at the location of the first valve rocker arm.
2. Set the bore gauge to zero.
3. Measure the inside diameter of the rocker arm and check for out-of-roundness.
Gap "rocker arm - rocker arm axis":
Inlet and outlet
- Nominal value (new): 0.025 - 0.052 mm
- Limit value: 0.08 mm
Repeat the check for the remaining rocker arms.
Replace the rocker arm shaft and all rocker arms that exceed the clearance limit.
Caution: If any rocker arm from the unit (primary, secondary or secondary) needs to be replaced, all three rocker arms are replaced as a unit.
