Replacement
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Loosen the locknut and release the accelerator cable from the bracket (see accompanying illustration).
3. Turn the throttle crank and remove the cable end from its groove in the lever (see accompanying illustration).
4. Under the instrument panel in the driver's footwell, disconnect the accelerator cable from the gas pedal (see accompanying illustration).
5. Release the rubber bushing from the bulkhead of the engine compartment, then retract the cable assembly into the vehicle interior.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the cable grommet is properly seated in the bulkhead of the engine compartment. Select the slack in the cable, then move on to adjusting it.
Adjustment
1. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature, then let it idle.
2. Estimate the amount of deflection (lateral play) cable in the area between the throttle crank and the bracket (see accompanying illustration). The play must lie within the range of 9.5÷12.7 mm, otherwise loosen the lock nut and make the appropriate adjustment. Re-tighten the locknut firmly and stop the engine.
3. With the help of an assistant, make sure that the throttle valve is fully opened and closed. Check the free movement of the cable.
4. On AT equipped models, adjust throttle linkage in kick-down mode (TV cable) (see part 4-speed and continuously variable automatic transmissions (at and cvt)).
