Attention! The vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with airbags (SRS). When performing any work near the shock sensors, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS (see Airbags - general information). Do not test SRS models with any type of diagnostic equipment.
Tempostat activation switch
Examination
1. To check the switch must be removed from the car (see paragraph 1, Replacement).
2. Using a test lamp or equipped with an individual power source, check for continuity between the switch terminals in both of its positions (see table below). Replace the switch if necessary.
Tempostat activation switch state map
Switch position | Conductivity between terminals |
On (ON) | |
Civic | 2 and 3 |
Integra | 1 and 2 |
Off (OFF) (lamp test) | |
Civic | 1 and 2; 4 and 5 |
Integra | 2 and 3; 4 and 5 |
Replacement
1. Pry the switch with a small screwdriver and remove it from the instrument panel (see accompanying illustration). Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Heated rear window switch
Examination
1. Remove the switch from the instrument panel (see paragraph 1 below, Replacement).
2. On Civic models, a timer is included in the switch circuit, which requires a special test method. In the event of a malfunction of the heater, turn on the ignition (do not start the engine), then connect the positive probe of the voltmeter to terminal No. 1 of the circuit breaker wiring harness connector, connect the negative probe to terminal No. 4 (see accompanying illustration). The instrument should register battery voltage, otherwise check the condition of the wiring and circuit fuse.
3. If battery voltage is present, install a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 4. If the heater now works, replace the switch, otherwise check the status of the heater relay (see Relay - general information and function check) with the corresponding chain.
4. On Integra models, use an ohmmeter or a test lamp equipped with a separate power supply to check for continuity between the switch terminals (see accompanying illustration and table below). If the test fails, replace the switch.
Status map of the heated rear window activation switch (Integra models)
Switch position | Conductivity between terminals |
On (ON) | 4 and 6 |
Off (OFF) (lamp test) | 1 and 3; 2and 5 |
Replacement
1. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the switch from the car's instrument panel (see accompanying illustration). Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
The switch of illumination of the panel of devices and running fires
Examination
1. Remove the switch from the car dashboard (see paragraph 1 below, Replacement).
2. A control circuit is included in the switch circuit, so the test is carried out in a special way. During the test, each circuit is tested individually. If the correct functioning of the system is broken, however, no faults were found in the circuits, therefore, the switch is most likely damaged. check the condition of the switch terminals. If necessary, clean the oxidized terminals, straighten the deformed ones. Replace the switch if necessary.
3. Connect an ohmmeter between the switch harness connector terminal #2 and chassis ground (see accompanying illustration). Conductivity must be present, otherwise check the circuit for an open circuit and the tightness of the terminal connections.
4. With the headlights on, connect a voltmeter between terminal No. 1 and ground. If there is no battery voltage, check the condition of the circuit components up to the mounting block located under the instrument panel and up to the combination switch.
5. With headlights on, install a jumper wire between terminal No. 3 and chassis ground. The backlight of the instrument panel should turn on at maximum brightness.
6. If the connecting wiring is OK, replace the switch.
Replacement
1. Gently prying with a screwdriver, release the switch from the car dashboard (see accompanying illustration). Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
