1. Using a piston, insert a new ring into the cylinder bore 15-20 mm from the bottom end of the cylinder.

2. Measure the distance between the ends of the piston ring cut using a set of feeler gauges.

If the distance is too small, check if the rings are correct for your engine.

If the distance is too large, check the cylinder bore diameter again. If the bore exceeds the service value, the cylinder block must be bored.

Piston ring gap:

Top ring

Engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A5, B16A6:

Nominal value:
  • 0.20-0.35 mm*1
  • 0.20-0.30 mm*2

Operational value: 0.60 mm

Other engines:
  • Nominal value: 0.15-0.30 mm
  • Operational value: 0.60 mm

The second ring

Engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A5, B16A6:
  • Nominal value: 0.40-0.55 mm
  • Operational value: 0.70 mm

Other engines:
  • Nominal value: 0.30-0.45 mm
  • Operational value: 0.70 mm

Oil scraper ring engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A5, B16A6, D15Z1, D16Z6:
Nominal value:
  • 0.20 - 0.50 mm*1
  • 0.20 - 0.45 mm*2

Operating values: 0.70 mm

Engines D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9:

Nominal value:
  • 0.20 - 0.80 mm*1
  • 0.20 -0.70 mm*2

  • 0.90 mm *1
  • 0.80 mm *2

Engines D15Z6, D16Y4, D16Y5, D16Y7, D16Y8:

Nominal value:
  • 0.20 -0.70 mm *1
  • 0.20 - 0.50 mm *2

Operating values:
  • 0.80 mm*1
  • 0.70 mm *2

Engines D15Z5, D15Z7:
  • Nominal value: 0.20 - 0.70 mm
  • Operating values: 0.80 mm

Engines D14A3, D14A4, D13B2, D15B2, D15B7:
  • Nominal value: 0.20 - 0.80 mm
  • Operating values: 0.90 mm

Replacement

1. Using a piston ring puller, remove the old piston rings.

2. Clean the piston ring grooves.

Attention:
  • Using a broken piston ring or a piston ring groove cleaner as a scraper, clean the piston ring groove.
  • Upper piston ring groove width - 1.2 mm (engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9) or 1.0 mm (except for engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9).
  • The width of the groove of the second piston ring is 1.5 mm (engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9) or 1.2 mm (except for engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9).
  • The width of the oil scraper ring groove is 2.8 mm.

Caution: Do not use a wire brush to clean piston ring grooves and rings.

Caution: If the piston must be separated from the connecting rod, do not install new rings.

3. Install new rings in the correct sequence and position.

Caution: Do not reuse old piston rings.

Caution: Do not reuse old piston rings.

Gap between groove and ring

After installing a new set of rings, measure the gaps between the manhole and the ring:

Upper ring gap

Nominal value:

Engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Z6, D16Z9, D13B2, D15B2, D15B7:
  • 0.030-0.060 mm*1
  • 0.030-0.055 mm*2

Operational value: 0.13 mm

Second ring gap

Nominal value:

Engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A5, B16A6:
  • 0.040-0.065 mm*1
  • 0.045-0.070 mm*2

Engines D15Z5, D15Z6, D15Z7, D16Y4, D16Y5, D16Y7, D16Y8, D15Z1:
  • 0.030-0.055 mm*1
  • 0.035-0.060 mm*2
