2. Measure the distance between the cut ends of the piston ring with a set of feeler gauges.
If the distance is too small, check to see if the rings fit your engine.
If the distance is too large, check the cylinder bore diameter again. If the hole exceeds the service value, the cylinder block must be bored.

Replacement
1. Using a piston ring puller, remove the old piston rings.
2. Clean the piston ring grooves.
Attention:
- Using a broken piston ring or piston ring groove cleaner as a scraper, clean the piston ring groove.
- Upper piston ring groove width - 1.2 mm (engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9) or 1.0 mm (except engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9).
- Groove width of the second piston ring - 1.5 mm (engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9) or 1.2 mm (except engines D14A3, D14A4, D15Z4, D16Y6, D16Y9).
- The width of the oil scraper ring groove is 2.8 mm.
Warning. Do not use a wire brush to clean grooves or piston rings.
Attention. If the piston must be separated from the connecting rod, do not install new rings.
3. Install new rings in the correct sequence and position.
Attention. Do not reuse old piston rings.
Gap between groove and ring
After installing a new set of rings, measure the gaps between the hole and the ring:

Combination
1. Install the rings as shown.
Note: The factory markings must face up.

2. Rotate the rings in the grooves to make sure they do not stick.
3. Install "lock" piston rings as shown in the figure.
