Before installing the piston, apply a layer of engine oil to the piston ring grooves and cylinder bores.

1. If the crankshaft is already installed: Set the crankshaft to TDC for each cylinder. Remove the connecting rod caps and fit short lengths of rubber hose over the threaded ends of the connecting rod bolts.

Install the ring compression guide, check that the insert is securely in place, then insert the piston into the cylinder and tap it with the wooden handle of a hammer until the piston is driven into the cylinder.

Stop when the ring compressor guide clicks free and check the alignment of the connecting rod and crank journal before pushing the piston into place.

Install the connecting rod caps with liners and tighten the nuts, while:

Other engines:

Mkr.= 31 Nm (3.2 kgf·m)

Apply engine oil to the threaded portions of the bolts.

2. If the crankshaft is not installed:

Remove the connecting rod caps and liners, install the ring compression guide, then install the piston into the cylinder and, tapping it with a wooden hammer handle, insert the piston into the cylinder.
