The deflection method
1. Apply a force of 98 N (10 kgf) and measure the belt deflection between the compressor and crankshaft pulleys.
A/C Compressor Belt
Used belt, engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 6.0-9.5 mm
Except for engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 7.5-9.5 mm
New belt, engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 4.5-6.5 mm
Except for engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 5.0-6.5 mm
Note:
- If any damage to the belt is noticed, replace it.
- A used belt is a belt that has been in operation for more than 5 minutes.
- A new belt is one that has been in service for less than 5 minutes.
2. Loosen the axle bolt and adjusting bolt lock nut (Nippondenso) or central nut (Sanden&Hadsys) tension roller.
3. Turn the adjusting bolt to obtain the appropriate belt tension.
4. Tighten the axle bolt and adjusting bolt lock nut (Nippondenso) or central nut (Sanden&Hadsys) tension roller.
5. Recheck the compressor belt deflection

Tension Sensor Method
1. Attach the special sensor to the compressor belt as shown below and measure the tension force.
A/C Compressor Belt
Used belt, engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 390-540N (40-55 kgf).
Except for engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 340-490N (35-50 kgf).
New belt, engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 740-880N (75-90 kgf).
Except for engines B16A2, B16A4, B16A6: 690-830N (70-85 kgf).
Note:
- Follow the tension measuring device manufacturer's instructions.
- If any damage to the belt is noticed, replace it.
- A used belt is a belt that has been in operation for more than 5 minutes.
- A new belt is one that has been in service for less than 5 minutes.
