Tightening the seat belt

In a frontal collision, the front seat belt is instantly retracted. The pretensioner is activated under the same conditions as the airbag.

How the system works

When the ignition key is in position "II" and the sensor detects a frontal collision that is greater than a predetermined value, the system is activated and the belt is immediately tightened.

When the ignition key is in position «II» and the…

Attention! When putting on the seat belt, be sure to follow the following. If you do not follow these rules, the belt will not tighten sufficiently.
  • Wear your seat belt correctly.
  • Maintain correct posture while driving.

Note: The seat belt pretensioner is a single-use device. Once activated, the belt will no longer extend or retract. Have the device replaced by a Honda dealer. Also, even if the seat belt is not worn, the same action occurs, so replace the front passenger seat belt pretensioner at the same time.

Warning! Do not remove or disassemble the seat belt pretensioner. If done incorrectly, it may not work properly or may not work at all.

Note: When performing repair work near the pretensioner or the center console, or when installing or repairing the radio, the pretensioner may be damaged.

Pretensioner warning light

The light is located on the dashboard and lights up in the event of a system malfunction (the same light is used as for airbags).

If, when turning the ignition key to position "II", this lamp lights up for approximately 6 seconds and then goes out, this is normal.

If the indicator lamp behaves as follows, it can be assumed that the system is malfunctioning, so immediately go to a Honda service for diagnostics.
  • The lamp lights up while the engine is running.
  • The lamp does not light up in position "II" of the ignition key or does not go out even after approx. 6 seconds.

In such cases, there is a risk that the seat belt will not tighten at the right moment.
