Replacement
Note: LHD type shown, RHD type is similar.
1. If the compressor has operating capacity, start the engine at idle speed and let the air conditioner run for a few minutes, then turn off the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Release the refrigerant.
4. Remove the bolts and disconnect the inlet and outlet pipes from the compressor.
Note: Close the tube openings immediately after disconnecting to prevent dirt and moisture from entering.
5. Remove the condenser and disconnect the compressor clutch connector.
Note: Do not disconnect the outlet tube from the condenser.
6. Remove the power steering pump belt.
7. Loosen the axle and adjusting bolts on the compressor belt tension roller bracket and remove the compressor belt from the pulleys. Remove the two mounting bolts from the left front engine mount and remove the compressor belt by passing it through the opening between the engine mount and the housing.
8. Remove the four mounting bolts and the compressor.
9. Unscrew the four bolts and remove the service valve from the compressor.
10. If necessary, remove the compressor bracket as described below.
- Remove the nuts and washers
Note: When tightening the nuts on the left front engine mount, make sure the washers are seated correctly as shown in the illustration.
- Remove the four mounting bolts and the compressor bracket.
11. Install parts in the reverse order of removal. Please note the following points.
- If you are installing a new compressor, drain all the oil from the old compressor and measure the amount. Subtract this amount from 140 ml. The result is the amount of oil that needs to be drained from the new compressor (via suction connection).
- Replace the O-rings at each connection and lubricate them with refrigerant oil before installation.
Note: Be sure to use HFC-134a refrigerant rings (R - 134a), to prevent leaks.
- Use only oil (Nippondenso: ND-OIL8, P/N 38899-PR-003 [or P/N-38899-PR7-A01] for Nippondenso piston compressor (under R-134a).
- To avoid confusion, do not pour a little into the original container if it has already been poured out, and do not mix oils of different brands.
- Immediately after using the oil, replace the lid on the container and provide a seal to prevent moisture absorption. Adjust the compressor and power steering belts. Charge the system and check its performance.
