Description

The throttle bodies are a single chamber horizontal flow design (except for the D16Y7 engine) and vertical flow (engine D16Y7). The lower part of the throttle valve is heated by the engine cooler from the cylinder head. The idle speed adjustment screw, which increases/decreases the air flow and the fuel vapor canister inlet (D16Y6, B16A2, B16A4, B16A5, B16A6) located on the top of the throttle body.

Inspection

Except for the D16Y7 engine:

Caution: Do not adjust the throttle stop screw. It is set at the factory.

1. Start the engine. Run it at 3000 rpm without load (A/T in [N] or [P], M/T in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (to the EVAP fuel vapor canister) from the top of the throttle body, attach a vacuum gauge to the throttle body.

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (to the EVAP fuel…

3. Leave the engine idling and check that the pressure gauge indicates no vacuum.

If there is vacuum, check the throttle cable.

4. Check that the vacuum is indicated on the pressure gauge when the throttle is slightly open from idle.

If the gauge indicates no vacuum, check the throttle body inlet. If the throttle body inlet is clogged, clean it with carburetor cleaner.

5. Stop the engine and check that the throttle cable operates smoothly, without sticking or pinching.

If there are any abnormalities in the above steps, check:
  • Excessive wear or play in the throttle shaft.
  • Throttle lever sticking or jamming in the fully closed position.
  • Clearance between throttle stop screw and throttle lever in fully closed position.

Clearance between throttle stop screw and…

Replace the throttle body if there is excessive play in the throttle shaft, or if the shaft is binding or binding.

Engine D16Y7:

1. Check that the throttle cable operates smoothly and without binding or pinching.

If there are any abnormalities in the above steps, check:

Excessive wear or play in the throttle shaft.

Warning:
  • throttle stop screw in non-adjustable,
  • after overhaul, adjust the throttle cable and throttle control cable,
  • the throttle position sensor is not replaceable.
