Description

1. throttle valve

1. throttle valve
2. (1-pin) throttle position sensor
3. idle speed adjustment screw.
4. Throttle limit screw (do not adjust)

The throttle body is a single-chamber design with a side draft. The bottom of the throttle is heated by engine coolant from the cylinder head. The top of the throttle body contains the idle speed adjustment screw, which increases/decreases the air supply bypassing the throttle, and a channel for the charcoal fuel vapor trap (EVAP) canister.

Examination

1. Start the engine. Maintain the engine speed at 3000 rpm (min') with no load (in Park or Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (to the EVAP canister) from the top of the throttle body; connect the pressure gauge to the throttle body.

3. Run the engine at idle speed and make sure the gauge shows no vacuum. If there is vacuum, check the throttle cable (see above).

4. Make sure the gauge shows vacuum when the throttle is slightly opened at idle speed. If the gauge does not show vacuum, check the passage in the throttle body. If the passage is clogged, clean it with carburetor cleaner.

5. Stop the engine and check that the throttle cable moves smoothly without binding or sticking.

6. If any deviations from the norm are observed when performing the above operations, check:
  • Excessive wear or play in the throttle shaft.
  • The throttle linkage is stuck or jammed in the fully closed position.
  • Clearance between throttle stop screw and throttle lever in fully closed position.

3. There should be no gap.

If there is excessive play in the throttle shaft or the shaft is binding or sticking, replace the throttle body.

Removal

1. 22 NM (2.2 kgf/m)

1. 22 NM (2.2 kgf/m)
2. MAP sensor
3. throttle cable
4. Gasket. Replace.
5. IAC valve
6. TR sensor

Note:
  • Do not adjust the throttle stop screw.
  • After assembly, adjust the throttle cable (see above).
  • The TR sensor is not removable.
