Note: The self-diagnosis system is only installed on vehicles with PGM-FI fuel injection as an extension of the control system. If the instrument panel has PGM-FI indicators (models from 1985 to 1987.) or CHECK ENGINE (models since 1988), then the car is equipped with this system.

1. Locate the lamp display on the electronic control module located:
  • a) 1986, 1987 models - under the passenger seat;
  • b) models since 1988 - under the passenger footwell carpet.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the second position. You will see four lights flashing in different combinations: the system is on.

3. If a fault is detected during the troubleshooting process, the "PGM - FI" indicator light will light up or "CHECK ENGINE" and the fault code will be written to the ECU memory. To erase the fault code from the memory, remove the "HAZARD" fuse (risk of damage) from the fuse panel for about 10 seconds. Perform this operation only after the fault has been eliminated!

Caution: The ECU is powered by the battery. To avoid damaging the ECU, disconnect and connect the battery cables only when the ignition is off.

In system models since 1988, the code number matches the number of blinks of the ECU lights (for example, the code is 10-10 blinking lights)
