Note: Basic adjustment data is provided on the plate under the engine hood.
1. To adjust the ignition timing, you need a stroboscope.
2. On 1986, 1987 models, disconnect the hoses from the distributor and plug them.
3. On 1988 and later models, connect the brown and white/green terminals of the timing advance connector with a wire. On 1988 and 1989 models, the connector is located in the left rear corner of the engine compartment: you must remove the yellow rubber cover before connecting the wire. On 1990 models, the connector is located under the instrument cluster on the right side.

4. With the ignition on, connect the inductive sensor of the stroboscope to the spark plug of the first cylinder, connect the power supply of the stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions (usually just connect to the battery).
5. The engine crankshaft pulley has four color marks corresponding to different ignition timing angles. A reference point is located directly above the pulley.
6. Start the engine and aim the strobe light at the marks.
7. Read the marks relative to the reference point. If adjustment is required, loosen the adjusting screw and, by rotating the distributor, set the correct ignition timing.
8. Tighten the adjusting bolt and recheck the ignition timing.
9. Turn off the engine and disconnect the strobe light.
10. Connect the vacuum hoses or remove the wire.
