Note. The TV cable is used to release gas at the moment the AT is switched to a lower gear in kick-down mode - it should not be confused with the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal.
Examination
1. Before proceeding with the TV-cable test, make sure that the accelerator cable free play adjustments are correct (see chapter Power and exhaust systems) and idle speed (see chapter Current service).
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. By depressing and releasing the gas pedal, make sure that the throttle control lever on the AT is synchronized with the accelerator rod.
4. If synchronization is broken, make the necessary adjustment of the TV cable (see below).
5. Have an assistant depress the accelerator pedal all the way and make sure that the throttle actuator lever on the transmission has a slight play.
6. Disconnect the tip of the cable from the lever.
7. Check up freedom of a course of the lever. If sticking points are found, contact an automatic transmission specialist for assistance.
8. Reconnect the TV cable to the drive arm on the transmission.
Adjustment
1. Follow the procedures in paragraphs 1 and 2 above.
2. Make sure the throttle lever is in the throttle closed position.
3. Loosen the TV cable jam nut at the top of the cable near the throttle body.
4. Press the damper lever to the fully closed position, then adjust the TV cable play by tightening the adjusting nut.
5. Tighten locknut.
6. Make sure that the timing and operation of the drive lever is correct. Also, make sure that when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the drive lever on the transmission has a slight free play. The absence of a slight play indicates a malfunction of the lever or damage to the control mechanism inside the transmission.
