If it is not possible to use the stand, disassembly should be done by placing the engine on a solid workbench, or by placing it securely on a hard garage floor. When working without a stand, make sure that the engine does not accidentally tip over.
If you plan to replace the engine with a remanufactured one, remove all attachments and external components from the old one and transfer them to the replacement unit. These swappable assemblies/components include:
- a) Generator with brackets;
- b) Components of systems for reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases;
- c) Distributor, BB wires and spark plugs;
- d) Thermostat with casing cover;
- e) Bypass pipe of the water pump;
- f) Components of the fuel injection system;
- g) Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold;
- h) Oil filter
- i) Engine mounts;
- j) Clutch Assembly (RKPP);
- k) Flywheel/Drive Disc;
Note. When removing external components from an old engine, try to remember the characteristic features of their installation. Record the seating positions of gaskets, seals, distance rings and bushings, pins, brackets, washers, bolts and other small parts in a notebook.
When choosing a scheme using an abbreviated block set consisting of a cylinder block with a crankshaft and connecting rod and piston groups installed in it, also remove the cylinder head, oil pan and oil pump from the old unit (for possible alternatives to overhaul schemes, see Alternative options for engine reconditioning schemes).
When carrying out a complete overhaul of an old unit, disassemble it and remove all internal components. The following is the best order to perform the engine disassembly procedure:
- a) Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold;
- b) Cylinder head cover;
- c) Timing drive covers with bolts;
- d) Timing drive (timing belt with gears);
- e) Assembly of rocker arms with a camshaft (ami);
- f) cylinder head;
- g) Water pump;
- h) Oil pan;
- i) Oil pump with oil pickup;
- j) Oil dispensers (on corresponding Integra models);
- k) Connecting rod and piston assemblies (engines V18V1);
- l) crankshaft and main bearings;
- m) Connecting rod and piston assemblies (engines B18C1, B18C5, D16Y5, D16Y7 and D16Y8).
Before disassembling the engine, prepare the following materials, tools and parts (see also Engine assembly procedure):
- a) Standard set of locksmith tools;
- b) A set of cardboard or plastic containers/plastic bags for organized storage of small components;
- c) Scraper for cleaning mating surfaces;
- d) Countersink for removing stepped wear in the upper part of the cylinders;
- e) Puller for dismantling the vibration damper;
- f) Micrometer set;
- g) Telescopic caliper;
- h) Plunger Type Dial Meter (DTI);
- i) Valve spring compression tool;
- j) Hone for cylinder mirror processing;
- k) Tool for cleaning grooves for installing piston rings;
- l) Electric drill;
- m) A set of taps and lerok;
- n) Wire brushes;
- o) Cylindrical brushes for cleaning oil galleries;
- p) Solvent.
