Attention:
- Do not start the engine if the battery has a low electrolyte level. This may damage the battery.
- Do not leave the car with the engine running in a poorly ventilated area, as carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust gases can cause poisoning.
- Depress the brake pedal before starting the engine.
Note: If the sound of the exhaust has changed or the cabin smells of exhaust gases or gasoline, a malfunction of the exhaust system or fuel system can be assumed, so be sure to contact a service station.
1. Fully tighten the parking brake.
2. Make sure that the automatic transmission selector lever is in position P.
3. Strongly press a brake pedal.
4. Without depressing the accelerator pedal, crank the engine with the starter until the engine starts.
Note:
- The engine starts more easily if powerful consumers of electricity are turned off (headlights, air conditioning, rear window heater, etc.).
- Do not turn on the starter for more than 15 seconds. the battery may be discharged or the starter may be damaged.
- If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, turn the ignition key to the «I», wait at least 10 seconds, and then restart.
If the engine is warm, the engine may not start immediately. In such cases, depress the accelerator pedal approximately half way and start. After starting the engine, release the accelerator pedal.
After starting the engine, the engine management system maintains the engine speed at a high speed, however, as the engine warms up, the engine speed decreases to normal.
