Steering pump early models
1 - Pressure line bolts; 2 - Return line clamp; 3 - Adjusting bolt; 4 - Mounting bolts
Steering pump of late models
1 - Pressure line bolts; 2 - Return line clamp; 3 - Adjusting bolt; 4 - Fixing bolt
1. Disconnect from the battery at first a negative wire, then positive.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the pump (see illustrations above). Pay attention to the difference in the design of the fitting units for connecting the pressure and return lines: the return hose is attached to the fitting with a clamp, while the pressure line is connected with two bolts. Seal the open ends of both hoses immediately after disconnection to minimize hydraulic fluid loss and prevent dirt from entering the system. Replace the O-ring on the pressure line union.
3. Turn out an adjusting bolt of the steering pump.
4. Give fixing bolts and remove the pump from the engine.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Do not forget to remove air from the steering system at the end of the procedure (see Removing air from the hydraulic path of the power steering system) and adjust the drive belt tension (see chapter Current service).
