2. Set the piston of cylinder No. 1 to TDC.
3. Check that the primary intake rocker arm (A) moves independently of the secondary intake rocker arm (B).
- If the primary intake rocker arm does not move, remove the primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly and check to see if the pistons in the secondary and primary rocker arms move smoothly. If any rocker arm requires replacement, replace the primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly and test.
- If the primary intake rocker arm moves smoothly, proceed to step. 4.

4. Repeat step. 3 on the remaining primary intake rocker arms with the cylinder pistons set to TDC. If all primary rocker arms pass the test, proceed to step. 5.
5. Make sure that the air pressure on the compression gauge is more than 400 kPa (4 kgf/cm²).
6. Check valve clearances.
7. Remove the sealing plug (A) from the relief hole and screw in the VTEC plug (B).

8. Remove the bolts from camshaft brackets No. 2 and No. 3 and screw in the VTEC fittings (C) by hand.
9. Connect the adapter (D), tee (E) and valve tester (F).
10. Loosen the valve on the regulator and supply air at the required pressure.
Required air pressure: 290 kPa (3.0 kgf/cm²)
Note: If the timing valve does not move after air is supplied, move the primary or secondary rocker arm up and down manually by rotating the crankshaft clockwise.
11. With air supplied at the required pressure, move the primary rocker arm of the intake valve (A) of cylinder No. 1. The primary and secondary rocker arms (B) should move together.
- If the secondary rocker arm does not move, remove the primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly and check to see if the pistons move smoothly in the secondary and primary rocker arms. If any rocker arm requires replacement, replace the primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly and test.

12. Disconnect the special tool.
13. Tighten the camshaft bracket mounting bolts to 22 Nm (2.2 kgf·m).
14. Tighten the sealing plug to 20 Nm (2.0 kgf·m).
15. Install the cover on the cylinder head.
