Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
3. Drain the oil from the box (see Chapter 1).
4. Remove the traction system from the box.

5. Disconnect the clutch rods (see Chapter 8).
6. Disconnect the speedometer cable and electrical connectors from the box.
7. Disconnect the exhaust system.
8. Remove the starter (see Chapter 5).
9. Support the engine with an eyebolt or place a jack underneath it. Place the jack under the oil pan, and be sure to place a block of wood between the pan and the jack. The engine must have additional temporary support at all times while the transmission is removed.
10. Remove any chassis or suspension components that will interfere with removal of the transmission (see Chapter 10).
11. Disconnect the drive shafts from the gearbox (see Chapter 8).
12. Supporting the gearbox with a jack, unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
13. Remove the gearbox supports.

14. Perform a check inspection, disconnect any remaining wires, hoses, etc. Carefully pull out the box.
15. Once the input shaft is completely free, lower the gearbox and remove it from under the vehicle.
16. With the gearbox removed, inspect the clutch (see Chapter 8), if you do not want to repeat the operation of removing the box in the near future.
Installation
17. Install the clutch (see Chapter 8).
18. Raise the gearbox, carefully insert the primary shaft into the clutch splines and install the gearbox. Do not apply significant force: the shaft has not entered the splines, turn until the shaft and clutch splines match.
19. Insert the mounting bolts and tighten them.
20. Install the gearbox supports and tighten all bolts.
21. Install all previously removed chassis and suspension components.
22. Remove the additional engine mounts.
23. Install the starter (see Chapter 5), exhaust system (see Chapter 4) and drive shafts (see Chapter 8).
24. Connect all wires, hoses, rods and speedometer cable. Fill the gearbox with oil (see Chapter 1).
25. Conduct a test drive.
