Note:
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
- When removing and installing the steering gear, refer to the corresponding assembly drawings.
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Jack up the front of the car and place it on stands.
3. Remove the front wheels.
4. Remove the driver's airbag (see chapter "Supplementary Restraint System (SRS)").
5. Remove the steering wheel (see section "Steering wheel").
6. Remove the lower trim panel on the driver's side (see chapter "Body").
7. Remove the hinge cover.

8. Loosen the bolts and disconnect the joint from the steering shaft.
- Tightening torque - 28 Nm

9. Remove the mudguard.

10. (Left hand drive models)
Remove the gasket (A).

11. (Left hand drive models)
Remove the air cleaner.
12. (Left hand drive models)
Attach the eyelet (A) to the air cleaner bracket (B).

13. (Left hand drive models)
Attach the bracket (A) to the engine hanger (B).

14. (Left hand drive models)
Attach the mounting posts (C) and hook (D) to the engine mount. Secure the hook with the wing nut (E).
15. Disconnect the drive shaft from the wheel hub (see chapter "Drive shafts").
16. Disconnect the lower arm of the front suspension from the steering knuckle (see chapter "Drive shafts"),
17. Remove the cotter pin (A), unscrew the nut and, using a special tool, disconnect the steering rod end (B) from the steering knuckle.
- Tightening torque - 43 Nm

18. Using a wrench (D), loosen the nut (C) and disconnect the strut (B) from the front suspension stabilizer bar (A).

19. (Right hand drive models)
Remove the exhaust pipe (A).
20. (Right hand drive and 4WD models)
Remove the front propeller shaft (B).

21. Disconnect the 4P(A), 6P(B), 1P(C) and 2P(D) connectors from the driver's side steering gear.
Note: Wrap the connectors with protective tape to avoid damage.

22. (European models with automatic transmission)
Loosen the bolts (A and C) and remove the cross member reinforcement (B).

23. (Right hand drive models)
Loosen the crossbar bolts (A).
2WD models.
4WD models.
24. Place a jack under the cross beam.

25. (Left hand drive models)
Place a block (A) between the jack and the crossbar (B).

26. Loosen the bolts (C) and remove the steering mechanism assembly with the cross beam.
27. Loosen the bolts, remove the brackets (A and B) and bushing (C) and disconnect the steering gear (D) from the cross member.

28. Remove the steering shaft boot (A).
