Replacing the steering gear protective covers (Honda Accord 6)

1. Loosen the nuts of the corresponding wheel. Jack up the front of the car and place it on supports. Remove the wheel.

2. Remove the tie rod end and its lock nut from the steering rod (see Section Removal and installation tie rod ends).



3. Use side cutters to cut and remove the bandage straps securing the rubber protective cover of the steering gear.

4. Before installing the new cover, wrap the cut end of the steering rod with tape to avoid accidentally damaging the small lips of the cover when placing it on the rod.

5. Put the new boot on the rod and pull it onto the steering gear crater, making sure that its sealing lips are seated correctly in the receiving groove. Secure the boot with new bandage tapes.

6. Remove the tape and screw the tie rod end back into place (see Section Removal and installation tie rod ends).

7. Reinstall the wheel. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts to the specified torque (see Specifications in Chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
