2. Connect the following equipment: ammeter, 0-400 A, voltmeter 0-20 V (with a measurement accuracy of at least 0.1 V).
Start the engine. Keep the crankshaft speed of 3.000 rpm without load (shift lever - in neutral position), until the radiator fan turns on and let it idle.
4. Raise and hold the engine speed of 2000 rpm.
5. Turn on the lights (high beam) and measure the voltage at the alternator terminal. Is the voltage between 13.9 and 15.1 V?
- YES - go to step 6.
- NO - Replace the alternator or repair the alternator.
6. Check the current value at 13.5 V.
Note. Adjust the voltage when the air conditioning fan, rear window defroster, brake lights, etc. are on.
Is the current equal to or greater than 60 A?
- YES - Charging system is OK. Go to Troubleshooting the Generator Control Circuit.
- NO - Replace the alternator or repair it.
