- YES - go to step 2.
- NO - go to step 14.
Start the engine. Maintain the engine speed at 2,000 rpm for 1 minute.
Does the charging system indicator go out?
- YES - The charging system indicator circuit is OK. Proceed to troubleshooting the generator and regulator circuit.
- NO - go to step 3.
3. Perform the instrument cluster module self-diagnosis procedure. Does the charging system indicator light up?
- YES - proceed to step 4.
- NO - Replace the instrument cluster control module.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
5. Disconnect the 4P generator connector.
6. Turn the ignition on by turning the key to the "ON" (II) position.
Note: The charging system indicator may come on and then go out. Does the charging system indicator go out?
- YES - Replace the generator or repair the generator.
- NO - go to step 7.
7. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
8. Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
9. Turn the ignition on by turning the key to the "ON" (II) position.
10. Verify that the HDS is communicating with the vehicle and the ECM. If not, troubleshoot the DLC circuit.
11. Connect the SCS service test signal circuit to the HDS, then turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
Note: This action is necessary to prevent damage to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
12. Disconnect the 44P connector in the ECM unit.
13. Check the continuity between terminal B15 of the ECM connector and body ground.

Is the connection continuous?
- YES - Repair open in wire between alternator and ECM.
- NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or temporarily substitute a known-good ECM, then retest. If the fault does not occur with a known-good ECM, replace the removed ECM.
14. Perform the instrument cluster self-diagnosis procedure. Does the charging system indicator light up?
- YES - go to step 15.
- NO - Replace the instrument cluster control module.
15. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
16. Disconnect the 4P generator connector.
17. Connect terminal No.3 of the 4P generator connector to the body ground using a jumper wire.

18. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" (II) position. Does the charging system indicator light up?
- YES - replace the generator or repair it.
- NO - go to step 19.
19. Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
20. Turn the ignition on by turning the key to the "ON" (II) position.
21. Verify that the HDS is communicating with the vehicle and the ECM. If not, troubleshoot the DLC circuit.
22. Connect the SCS Service Test Signal circuit to the HDS, then turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
Note: This action is necessary to prevent damage to the ECM.
23. Disconnect the 44P connector B of the ECM/PCM control unit.
24. Check the continuity of the wire between terminal B15 of the ECM connector and the body ground.

Is the connection continuous?
- YES - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or temporarily replace it with a known-good ECM, then retest. If the fault does not occur with a known-good ECM, replace the removed ECM.
- NO - Repair open in wire between alternator and ECM.
