Note. To measure the runout of the front wheel, slowly rotate the wheel from the back by hand.
1. Raise the vehicle and place safety stands in the appropriate places.
2. Make sure that there are no dents or deformation of the rims.
3. Mount the micrometer tool as shown in the figure and rotate the wheel to measure the disc axial runout.
Axial runout standard for front and rear wheels.
- Steel discs: 0-1.0 mm.
- Aluminum discs: 0-0.7 mm.
- Operating range limit: 2.0 mm.
4. Move the micrometer tool to the position shown in the figure and measure the radial runout.
Radial runout standard for front and rear wheels.
- Steel discs: 0-1.0 mm.
- Aluminum discs: 0-0.7 mm.
- Operating range limit: 1.5 mm.
5. If wheel runout is out of specification, check wheel bearing play and make sure brake disc mating surfaces and wheel inner surface are clean.
6. If the bearing play is within acceptable limits and the disc runout is out of range, replace the disc.
