Examination
1. If the engine stalls when making maneuvers while parking the car, check the PSP sensor-switch for proper operation. A faulty sensor-switch can also lead to constantly increased engine speed.
2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor-switch.
3. Connect an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals (see accompanying illustration).
5. Run the engine to idle.
6. Bring the front wheels of the car into a straight line and read the ohmmeter reading, which in this case should be close to zero.
7. Turning the steering wheel in any direction, observe the meter readings. When approaching the steering wheel to any of the extreme positions, the PSP sensor-switch should open, which is confirmed by an infinite reading of the ohmmeter.
8. At negative results of check replace the gauge switch. If the sensor-switch is OK, you should check the engine idle settings.
Replacement
1. Disconnect both wires from the battery.
Attention! The negative wire should always be disconnected first and connected last. If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the equipment!
2. If necessary, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jack stands.
3. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor-switch and unscrew the latter from its union connection.
4. Install the replaceable sensor-switch in place and lower the car to the ground.
5. Remove air plugs from the hydraulic path of the power steering system (see chapter Suspension and steering). Correct the fluid level if necessary (see chapter Current service).
