The best time to check the oil level is with a cold engine. If the engine has been running before, let it sit for a few minutes before checking the level to allow the oil to accumulate in the crankcase.
1. Raise the hood, remove the dipstick from the engine and wipe it clean.
2 Insert the dipstick fully, then remove it and check the level.
The oil level on all Hondas should read within the dashed lines on the dipstick, or between two lines or dots, depending on the type of dipstick.
3. Oil is poured through the open neck. Do not add oil if the level is well above the lowest mark on the dipstick. If the level is near or below the lowest line, ADD oil, but don't overdrink it. The length of the covered area on the dipstick is roughly equivalent to one liter of oil.
4. If oil has been added, remove the dipstick and recheck the level. It is very important to avoid overfilling the crankcase. If you overfill it, it will cause foaming during the rotation of the crankshaft; which can cause oil clogging by affecting the lubricant.
