Removal/Installation
Note: Before disconnecting the hoses from the pump, place a suitable tray under the vehicle.
1. Drain the fluid from the power steering fill barrel.
2. Remove the belt by loosening the pump mounting bolts and the adjusting bolt (only for engines BI6A2, BI6A4, BI6A5 and BI6A6)
3. Cover the condenser with a rag to protect it from spilling power steering fluid. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the pump» and insert the plugs into the hoses.
Note: Be careful not to spill liquid on the housing or other parts. Wipe up any spilled liquid immediately.
4. Remove the pump mounting bolts and the adjusting bolt (only for engines BI6A2, BI6A4, BI6A5 and BI6A6), then remove the pump.
Note: Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
5. Cover the pump opening with a piece of tape to prevent foreign materials from entering the pump.
6. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses. Tighten the pump connections securely.
7. Loosely install the pump into the pump bracket, install the mounting bolts and adjusting (only BI6A2 engine).
8. Install the pump belt.
Attention
- Make sure the power steering belt is positioned correctly on the pulleys.
- Do not allow power steering fluid or grease to come in contact with the power steering belt or pulley surface. Remove liquid or grease immediately.
9. Adjust the pump belt.
10. Fill the filling barrel to the top level.
Pump belt
Note: When applying a new belt, first adjust the deflection or tension to the values of the new belt, then, after running the engine for 5 minutes, repeat the deflection or tension adjustment to the values of the used belt.
Checking belt tension
Apply a force of 98 N (10 kgf) and measure the deflection of the belt connecting the power steering pump and the crankshaft pulley.
Deviation:
- Used belt: 8.0-12.0 mm
- New belt: 6.0-9.5 mm
Adjustment
1. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts.
2. Adjust the belt tension.
For engine types: 16A2, V16A4, V16A5 and V16A6
- Turn the adjusting bolt to obtain the appropriate belt tension, then retighten the fastening bolts.
Other engine types:
- Move the power steering pump away from the engine with a wrench to obtain the appropriate belt tension» then tighten the mounting bolts again.
- Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times» then stop the engine and check the belt deflection again.
