Note: Before checking the idle speed, check the following points:
- - the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) does not come on and there are no DTCs in the system;
- - ignition timing;
- - spark plugs;
- - air filter;
- - PCV forced crankcase ventilation system;
- - headlights are off.
1. Disconnect the Fuel Vapor Absorber tank Purge valve (EVAP) connector.
2. Connect the HDS to the DLC data link connector located on the driver's side under the instrument panel.
3. Start the engine. Maintain the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min⁻¹) without load (in neutral position of manual transmission) until the radiator fan turns on and let it idle.
4. Check the speed under no load conditions: headlights, air conditioning fan, radiator cooling fan and air conditioner are turned off.
The rotation speed should be equal to: 700±50 rpm (min⁻¹).
5. Let the engine idle for approximately 1 minute under high electrical load (turn on the air conditioner, set the temperature to the "maximum cold" temperature, the heater fan to the "High" position and turn on the high beam headlights).
The rotation speed should be equal to: 850±50 rpm (min⁻¹).
Note: If the engine idle speed is not within acceptable standards, perform the ECM Idle Speed Diagnostic Procedure (ECM idle learn procedure). If the idle speed is different from the specifications, refer to the troubleshooting procedure by symptoms.
6. Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve.
