Keys
Along with the car, you learned two copies of the key, one of which should be kept in a safe place (not in the car) and use as a spare. The same key fits all locks:
- ignition lock;
- door locks;
- trunk lid lock.
Along with a set of car keys, you received a plate with the number of the keys. On some modifications of the car, the number is stamped directly on the keys themselves. You may need the number of keys to make additional copies of keys instead of lost ones. Keep the number plate in a safe place, or write down the number stamped on the keys and keep it in your wallet or with your documents.
Only Honda-approved key blanks may be used to make replacement keys.
Code key (for vehicles equipped with an immobilizer)
If an immobilizer is installed on your car, then the set of keys, along with two identical keys, additionally includes a code key. When replacing a lost key, the new key must be pre-encoded with a code key. Since you will not be able to encode a new key yourself, contact a Honda dealer.
The code key is intended only for performing the operation of encoding new keys. It is not possible to start the engine with a coded key. An attempt to start the engine with a coded key sometimes results in the immobilizer blocking the engine from starting even when using the main key. In this case, you need to contact a Honda workshop. Keep the code key in a safe and secure place. Each key has a built-in electronic unit. Therefore, the handling of keys requires caution and mandatory compliance with the rules below. Violation of these rules can lead to the failure of the keys.
- Do not expose the keys to direct sunlight or high temperatures. Do not store keys in places with high humidity.
- Do not drop the keys or place heavy objects on them.
- Keys should not be disassembled. The keys do not have electric batteries.
- Do not expose keys to moisture. If the keys get wet, gently wipe them dry with a soft cloth.
Attention! If you are going to encode a new key, be sure to bring the remaining key and the code key with you to the Honda Service Station.
Immobilizer (individual models)
Your vehicle is equipped with an immobilizer that prevents the engine from starting. The immobilizer is an effective anti-theft device and protects your car from possible theft. Your car's engine can only be started with a specially coded key. The following describes how the immobilizer works when you try to start the engine with the wrong key.
Do not make any changes or additions to the design of the immobilizer. This may interfere with the normal functioning of the electronic systems of your car and create the prerequisite for a traffic accident.
Egnition lock
The ignition switch is located on the right side of the steering column. The key can occupy one of four positions in the ignition lock:
- ABOUT - (LOCK),
- I - (ACCESORY - Auxiliary electricity consumers),
- II - (ON - Ignition on)
- III - (START - STARTING).
Position 0 (LOCK). You can only insert or remove the key in this position. The action of elastic forces in the steering gear can make it difficult to turn the key from the LOCK position (0) to the ACCESSORY position (I). In this case, it is recommended to turn the steering wheel slightly to one side or the other to relieve the load on the steering lock tab. To turn the key from the ACCESSORY position (I) to the LOCK position (0), you must first lightly press the key and slightly drown it in the lock. In addition, on some modifications of vehicles with automatic transmission, it is additionally required that the range selector lever be in the Park position (Parking). The steering shaft is automatically blocked from rotation when the key is removed from the ignition switch.
Attention! Do not remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle is moving. This will lock up the steering shaft and make it impossible to steer the vehicle. Remove the key from the ignition only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
Position I (ACCESORY - Auxiliary electricity consumers). This key position allows the audio system to function (on some vehicle modifications) i am a cigarette lighter.
Regulation II (ON - Ignition on). The key is always in this position while the vehicle is moving and the engine is idling in place. At the same time, electrical power is provided to all devices and auxiliary equipment installed on the vehicle. When turning the key from the ACCESSORY position (I) to the ON position (II) some indicators and signaling devices located on the dashboard turn on for a short time. This is provided to check their serviceability. On some modifications of the car, when the key is turned to the ON position (II) headlights turn on automatically (in driving light mode during the day).
Vehicles equipped with an immobilizer. After the key is inserted into the ignition lock, the immobilizer indicator on the dashboard lights up for a few seconds. If the immobilizer recognizes the correct key code, the indicator on the dashboard goes out. If the wrong key is inserted into the lock, the immobilizer indicator does not go out, but starts flashing.
Remove the key from the ignition if the immobilizer indicator flashes. Then insert the key into the ignition again and turn the key to the ON position (II). If the immobilizer indicator starts flashing again, this indicates an incorrect key coding. It is not possible to start the engine with this key. In this situation, you need to contact a Honda service station.
Regulation III (START - STARTING). Turning the key to this position engages the starter. After starting the engine, release the key and it will automatically return to the ON position (II).
If your car is equipped with an immobilizer, then the starter will turn on with some delay compared to cars without an immobilizer.
On some vehicle modifications, an audible warning signal is provided when the driver's door is opened if the key is in the LOCK position (0) or ACCESSORY (I). To turn off the audible alarm, remove the key from the ignition.
Door locks
Each door has a lock button. To lock or unlock the door lock, move the button up or down.
When exiting the car, you can block the lock of any passenger door from the outside. To do this, lower the lock button on the open door and then slam the door. The driver's door lock can also be locked without a key from the outside: with the driver's door open, lift the outer handle and press the lock button. Then release the outer handle and close the door.
The front doors can be locked and unlocked from the outside with the key.
Cars with a 3-door hatchback body
Buttons designed to block the door locks are located in front of the corresponding handles for opening the doors.
Single electric lock (individual models)
A single lock provides simultaneous locking or unlocking of all door locks, respectively, when locking or unlocking the driver's door lock using a button (from inside the cabin) or key (car outside).
Remote control of a single lock (individual models)
If your car is equipped with a single electric lock with remote control. You can control the locking and unlocking of door locks without a key. While near the car, point the remote control at the signal receiver and press the button on the remote control. The signal receiver is located at the base of the interior rearview mirror bracket between the sun visors.
Each press of the remote control button unlocks or locks the doors, depending on whether they were previously locked or not. When the red indicator on the remote control lights up, the signal is being transmitted. If you locked the doors with the remote control when you left the vehicle, check that the locks are secure by pushing up on the outside handle of the driver's door.
Cars with a 5-door hatchback body
Cars can be equipped with two types of remote control: with one or two buttons. The remote control signal receiver is located in the upper sunroof control panel.
If the remote control does not function reliably or when you press the button on the remote control, the red indicator does not light up, then the battery of the remote control may be low. In this case, the battery must be replaced immediately. Battery: Type CR2032 (lithium).
Battery replacement
Loosen the screw and remove the console cover. Replace the battery, paying attention to the polarity of the connection. Replace the console cover and secure it with the screw. When installing the cover, make sure that the fixing protrusion on the cover fits into the groove of the console body. Test the operation of the remote control by locking and unlocking the door several times.
Cars with a 5-door hatchback body
The remote control is powered by two elements.
Remote control care
The remote control contains an electronic unit. Therefore, handling it requires caution and mandatory compliance with the rules below. Violation of these rules may lead to the failure of the remote control.
- Do not expose the remote control to direct sunlight or high temperatures. Do not store the remote control in places with high humidity.
- Do not drop the remote control or place heavy objects on it.
- Do not disassemble the remote control. When replacing the battery, follow the instructions above.
- Protect the remote control from moisture. If the remote control gets wet, gently wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
To clean the outside of the remote control, use a soft cloth lightly dampened with mild soapy water. The use of solvents, polishes, or abrasive cleaners will damage the surface of the console. To ensure reliable reception of the signal from the remote control, it is necessary to periodically wipe the receiver from dust and dirt.
A plate with the code number of the remote control is attached to the remote control. The number is only visible in infrared light. You will need this number when replacing a lost remote control. Keep the remote control code plate in a safe and secure place.
If you have several remote controls and have lost one of them, then when purchasing a new remote control to replace the lost one, you must simultaneously recode all remaining remote controls. Contact a Honda dealer.
Blocking doors from opening by children
To prevent accidental opening of doors by children while the car is moving, the rear door locks are equipped with a special locking device. At the end of each rear door there is a locking lever. If the lever is moved to the LOCK position on the open door (blocking) and then close the door, it will not be possible to open it with the inside handle regardless of the position of the lock button. In order to open the rear door locked in this way, it is necessary to raise the lock button of the lock and use the outside handle of the door.
Cars with a 3-door hatchback body
There are no devices for blocking door locks from opening by children.
Trunk lid lock
You can unlock the tailgate lock in two ways.
- Using the handle, which is located to the left of the driver's seat.
- With a key.
If two keys are attached to the car - the main and auxiliary, then the main key must be used to unlock and lock the trunk lid. The auxiliary key does not fit the trunk lid lock.
To lock the lock, close the trunk lid by pressing it from above. The trunk lid must be kept closed while the vehicle is in motion. This will prevent, firstly, possible damage to the cover and, secondly, the ingress of exhaust gases into the vehicle interior.
