2. Remember the DTC: The MIL displays the DTC by the duration and number of flashes. The indicator can display several DTCs in a row, one after the other. Codes 1 to 9 are displayed in one sequence of short flashes. Codes 10 to 20 are displayed in two sequences of long and short flashes. The number of long flashes is equivalent to the first digit, the number of short flashes is equivalent to the second. Sometimes it is difficult to determine the number of flashes in the first series, in any case, count the flashes twice to be completely sure of the DTC.

III. Final procedure (this procedure should be performed after any troubleshooting)

1. Disconnect the shorted SCS connector.

Note: If there are no fault codes stored in the control unit memory, the indicator lamp will remain lit after the ignition is turned on (with SCS connector attached).


2. Perform the procedure for resetting the control unit memory.

IV. When replacing the control unit with a known good one for rechecking (on models KG, KE, KS, KQ, KR). The control unit has an engine blocking system (immobilizer). A working control unit has a different code stored inside it, the code must be rewritten with a PGM tester. Otherwise the engine will not start.

If the fault code is not in the table, recheck the code. If the code is still not in the table, replace the electronic control unit (ECM). The MIL lamp may light up, indicating a system malfunction, due to a poor electrical connection. First check the quality of the connections, clean or repair the contacts if necessary.

The MIL does not illuminate if the fault is in the electrical load sensor (ELD) circuit. However, if a shorted SCS connector is connected, the corresponding code is set.
