1. Check the protective boots of the leading A and driven B joints of the axle shaft C for damage, cracking, grease leaks, or loosening of the mounting clamps D. If any damage is found, replace the boot and its mounting clamps.
2. Turn the axle shaft by hand to ensure that there is no significant play in the pivot and spline joints.
3. Make sure that the axle shaft is not bent or cracked. If any of these defects are present, replace the shaft.
