1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" (II) position and make sure that the air conditioner switch is in the "OFF" position. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
2. Check the position of the auto tensioner indicator needle A. Start the engine, then check the position again while idling. If the indicator moves or fluctuates greatly, replace the auto tensioner.
3. Check for increased noise in the tensioner pulley area. If unusual noise occurs, replace the automatic tensioner.
4. Remove the drive belt.
5. Place the wrench on the drive belt automatic tensioner on the top of the engine and turn it slowly in the direction shown. Check that the tensioner moves smoothly without excessive noise. If the tensioner does not move smoothly or abnormal noise is heard, replace the automatic tensioner.

Note: This automatic tensioner is hydraulic, so the key must be turned slowly.
