Note: All Civic models and some 1998 Integra models use Mitsubishi alternators. Replacing the brushes and voltage regulator here requires complete disassembly of the alternator and should be left to a professional.


Note: Replacing the brushes and voltage regulator on Nippondenso generators can be done by an amateur mechanic, but you should not attempt to perform a complete generator overhaul yourself. It will be easier to replace the assembly.

5. Measure the length of each brush protruding from the holder (see accompanying illustration) and compare the measurement results with the requirements Specifications. If the brush protrusion value is less than the lower limit of the permissible range, replace them.

7. To replace the voltage regulator, you must first remove the brush holder assembly. Then remove the mounting screws (see accompanying illustration) and remove the regulator from the generator.

8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing the brush holder in place, press the brushes to pass the shaft with a small screwdriver.
