Attention! The Integra models use a Nippondenso starter with a non-removable traction relay. In case of failure, the entire assembly is subject to replacement. The description below applies to Mitsubishi starters.
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!
2. Remove the starter (see Removal and installation the starter).
3. Disconnect the large wire connecting the solenoid relay to the starter motor terminal.
4. Remove the long bolts securing the end cover to the gearbox casing (see accompanying illustration). Remove the anchor assembly housing.
5. Remove the mounting screws and separate the gearbox casing from the front cover of the assembly (see accompanying illustration).
6. Loosen the mounting screws and separate the gearbox casing from the traction relay (see accompanying illustration).
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Before assembly, lubricate the drive lever and plunger of the traction relay with assembly grease (see accompanying illustration).
