Attention! Proceed with the procedure only after the engine has completely cooled down!
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Empty the cooling system (see chapter Current service). If the coolant was changed recently, save it for future use.
3. Remove accessory drive belts (see chapter Current service).
4. Remove the timing belt (see part Engine repair without removal from the car - Civic models). On Integra models, remove the pulleys from the camshafts as well as the rear engine shield.
5. Remove the accessory mounting brackets from the water pump.
6. Turn out fixing bolts (see accompanying illustration) and separate the pump from the motor. Try to remember the location of the long bolt.
7. Clean the threads of the mounting bolts and bolt holes in the block, completely freeing it from traces of corrosion, if necessary, restore the broken turns.
8. Make sure the new pump matches the old pump in size.
9. Remove all traces of sealant and old O-ring material from the mating surface of the engine block.
10. Wipe the mating surfaces of the engine and new pump with a rag soaked in acetone.
11. Lubricate the bottom and sides of the O-ring groove on the new pump housing with RTV Sealant, then carefully insert the new O-ring into the groove (see accompanying illustration).
12. Carefully press the pump against the engine block, screw in a couple of mounting bolts and tighten them until only by hand.
13. Screw in the remaining bolts (if any of them are also used to mount accessory brackets, be sure to install the last ones as well). In several steps,
1/4 turn per approach, - tighten the fasteners with the required force.
Attention! Under no circumstances should the bolts be overtightened due to the risk of deformation of the mating surfaces!
14. Install all components that were removed to provide access to the pump.
15. Fill the cooling system and remove air plugs from it, check the belt tension (to her) accessory drives (see chapter Current service). Start the engine and check for signs of coolant leaks.
