Engine Repair Without Removing It From the Vehicle — General Information (Honda Civic 6)

This Part of the Engine Chapter is devoted to the non-in situ repair of the 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol engine equipped with a fuel injection system. All procedures requiring removal of the power unit are given in Part General and major engine repairs.

Three engine versions are used to equip the Honda Civic models under consideration. All versions are single overhead camshaft (SOHC) engines. Each cylinder has 4 valves (16V).

The engines are equipped with one of two versions of the electronic valve timing adjustment system (VTEC). A more detailed description of the design and operating principle of VTEC systems is devoted to VTEC systems - general information and component health check.

The engines used have the following designations:

D16Y7	1.6L, 16V, SOHC
D16Y8	1.6L, 16V, SOHC VTEC
D16Y5	1.6L, 16V, SOHC VTEC-E*

* The "E" designation was introduced by Honda for engines with increased efficiency.
